Benzyl chloride is an important organic synthesis intermediate. In pesticides, it can not only directly synthesize organic phosphorus fungicides such as rice blast and iso rice blast, but also serve as an important raw material for many other intermediates, such as the synthesis of phenylacetonitrile, benzoyl chloride, meta phenoxybenzaldehyde, etc. In addition, it has wide applications in pharmaceuticals, fragrances, dye additives, synthetic resins, and other fields.

Organic synthesis intermediates are widely used in pharmaceuticals, pesticides, fragrances, dye additives, synthetic resins, and other fields. The main derivative products of benzyl chloride are as follows: (1) benzyl butylamine: obtained by reacting benzyl tert butylamine chloride. (2) Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP): First, phthalic anhydride reacts with butanol to form monobutyl phthalate, which then continues to react with sodium hydroxide to form the sodium salt of monobutyl ester. The sodium salt reacts with benzyl chloride to form BBP. Widely used as the main plasticizer for PVC plastic products. (3) Benzyl alcohol: obtained by heating and hydrolyzing benzyl chloride in the presence of a base. It is one of the important derivatives of benzyl chloride. It is a fine chemical product with a large tonnage. Benzyl benzoate, benzyl acetate, and benzyl propionate prepared from aromatic alcohols can be used as fragrances, solvents, etc. (4) Benzyl quaternary ammonium salts: such as dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (Jie Er Mie) and dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium bromide (Xin Jie Er Mie). Benzyl quaternary ammonium salt cationic surfactants are mainly used as disinfectants, hydrophobic agents, corrosion inhibitors, emulsifiers, and phase transfer catalysts. (5) Phenylacetonitrile: obtained by the condensation of benzyl chloride and sodium cyanide, is one of the important derivatives of benzyl chloride, mainly used in the production of pesticides such as phoxim, ethyl rice powder, and pharmaceuticals such as cough syrup and tebuconazole. A series of intermediates prepared from phenylacetonitrile have many important applications. For example, phenylacetic acid, phenylacetaldehyde, o-ethylphenylbenzoic acid, ethyl 2-chlorophenylacetate, phenylethylamine, alpha phenylacetamide, ethyl phenylacetate, and beta phenylethanol. (6) Diphenylmethane: Benzyl chloride is obtained by reacting with benzene in the presence of aluminum amalgam catalyst and is used in organic synthesis materials. Diphenylmethane is oxidized by nitric acid to produce benzophenone, which is mainly used as a UV absorber and pharmaceutical intermediate. (7) 2-chlorobenzyl chloride: obtained by low-temperature chlorination of benzyl chloride, used for further preparation of p-chlorobenzyl alcohol, p-chlorobenzaldehyde, p-chloroacetonitrile, p-chlorobenzoic acid, p-chlorodiphenylmethane, and p-chlorocyanobenzyl chloride, mainly used in pharmaceutical production. (8) Dibenzyl sulfide: obtained by reacting benzyl chloride with sodium sulfide, used in organic synthesis. (9) N-Methylbenzylamine: Prepared by reacting benzyl chloride with methylamine in benzene solvent, used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. (10) Benzylamine: N, N-dimethylbenzylamine synthesized by the reaction of benzyl chloride with urotropine or with ammonia water, and the reaction of benzylamine with formaldehyde and formic acid. It is a new and effective raw material. (11) Dibenzylamine: obtained by reacting benzyl chloride with liquid ammonia in ethanol, used in organic synthesis. (12) S-benzyl isothiocyanate: obtained by condensation of benzyl chloride with thiourea, used as a reagent and raw material for organic synthesis. (13) Cinnamic acid benzyl ester: obtained by the reaction of cinnamic acid with benzyl chloride or methyl cinnamate with excess benzyl alcohol, used as a fixative and modifier for fragrances. (14) Benzyl ortho hydroxybenzoate: produced from benzyl chloride, sodium ortho hydroxybenzoate, and dimethyl sulfoxide, it is an important intermediate in the production of fragrances. (15) Benzaldehyde: Obtained from the hydrolysis or alkaline hydrolysis of benzyl chloride, it is one of the important derivatives of benzyl chloride. Used for the production of cinnamic acid, cinnamaldehyde, alpha pentyl cinnamaldehyde, alpha ethyl cinnamaldehyde, benzophenone, etc.
